Milton Keynes AD smells

Anaerobic Digesters unacceptable odours

An ‘unacceptable stink’ from Anglian Water’s anaerobic digesters caused Milton Keynes Council to serve an abatement notice after foul smells have plagued parts of the city.  So yet another case of AD odours.

An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, recent problems with the anaerobic digestors (sic) have meant odours from the site have been higher than normal.

These digestors work much like a stomach, breaking down sewage through a series of complex biological and chemical reactions. Like an upset stomach, which can strike seemingly without any particular cause, anaerobic digestors can also become ill and fail to work normally and because of the many complex reactions that take place, curing the system is not a straightforward, instant fix.”
